A 16-member delegation from the Netherlands Embassy in New Delhi visited Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) on Friday to explore potential collaboration in green port development, renewable energy, and hydrogen readiness.
The delegation—comprising embassy officials and private industry representatives visiting Goa for India Energy Week—held discussions with senior port officials on future partnerships in hydrogen storage, operational safety, and pilot initiatives such as green tugs and solar energy projects.
Port officials described the talks as preliminary but forward-looking. “There is a strong possibility of formal collaborations in the future, particularly in hydrogen storage infrastructure at the port, which could eventually be used as marine fuel,” an official said. Pilot projects on solar power generation and green tug operations were also discussed.
MPA Chairperson Shri N. Vinodkumar briefed the delegation on the port’s ongoing sustainability and decarbonisation initiatives. From the Dutch side, Netherlands Embassy Innovation Counsellor Jan Reint Smit and Netherlands Enterprise Agency Programme Adviser Anneleen de Ruiter outlined areas where Dutch expertise and technology could support MPA’s green port vision.
The discussions saw participation from several Dutch companies, including the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO), HydroFlexx, Da Vinci Laboratory Solutions, Bosch Thin Metal Technologies, among others.
The Netherlands is actively seeking partnerships with Indian ports to promote sustainable maritime operations and reduce carbon emissions in shipping. As a major cargo-handling port, Mormugao Port Authority is aligning its transition to cleaner energy sources with India’s broader Green Ports initiative, positioning itself as a potential hub for future green maritime solutions.
