Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) on Monday launched ICGS Atal, the sixth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) in a series of eight being built for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The launch  ceremony took place at Vasco-da-Gama, Goa.

The vessel, designated Yard 1275, is part of a programme led by GSL, a Defence Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, to supply indigenously designed patrol vessels for coastal and offshore operations.

    Vessel capabilities and intended operations
Designed in-house by GSL, the FPV is 52 metres long, with an 8-metre beam and 320-tonne displacement. The vessel is intended for coastal patrols, island security, and offshore asset protection. It will also support anti-smuggling, anti-piracy, and search and rescue missions.

“The launch of ICGS Atal reflects the indomitable spirit of Team GSL and its unwavering commitment to indigenisation, innovation, and excellence in shipbuilding, even amidst global supply chain challenges,” said Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman and Managing Director of GSL.

Rozy Agarwal, Principal Internal Financial Advisor (PIFA) at Coast Guard Headquarters, who officiated as chief guest at the event, noted GSL’s execution capabilities and its role in supporting national maritime security.

The event was attended by senior officials from the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Ministry of Defence, industry partners, and representatives from GSL.
