Gujarat’s network of private ports continues to play a pivotal role in strengthening the state’s position as India’s leading maritime hub, handling nearly 270 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo annually and serving as critical gateways for domestic and international trade.
According to the Gujarat Maritime Board, private ports have emerged as key drivers of Gujarat’s maritime growth by facilitating the seamless movement of bulk, containerized, and industrial cargo, while enhancing supply chain efficiency and connectivity with global markets.
The robust infrastructure, deep-draft facilities, and operational capabilities of these ports have enabled them to support a wide range of industries, including energy, manufacturing, chemicals, agriculture, and logistics. Their contribution has been instrumental in attracting investments, boosting exports and imports, and strengthening India’s overall maritime trade ecosystem.
Officials noted that private ports remain an integral part of Gujarat’s maritime framework, complementing public port infrastructure and supporting the state’s economic expansion. With cargo volumes approaching 270 MMT annually, the sector continues to contribute significantly to trade facilitation, employment generation, and regional development.
As India advances its port-led development agenda, Gujarat’s private ports are expected to remain at the forefront of maritime growth, enhancing trade connectivity and reinforcing the state’s status as a major gateway to global commerce.
