HHLA Project Logistics (HHLA PL), a subsidiary of Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG, has completed another complex transport of wind turbine components from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea.
As wind power gains momentum around Baku, HHLA PL has been tasked with moving oversized project cargo along a demanding multimodal route.
The components originate in China, arriving first at the Turkish Port of Hopa before moving inland through Georgia to the Caspian region.
HHLA PL managed the end-to-end operation, overseeing route planning, special permits and the coordination of escorts with local authorities.
The cargo included extremely heavy and oversized elements, with tower sections measuring up to 25 metres long and 4.5 metres wide.
Individual transport units weighed as much as 185 tonnes, presenting significant challenges on narrow mountain roads.
Korneli Korchilava, Managing Director of HHLA Project Logistics, said: “Our primary focus is, of course, on meeting our customers’ needs. However, we are especially pleased when we can use our expertise to support sustainable energy projects.”
In November, HHLA exempted electric trucks from slot restrictions at Hamburg’s container terminals, a move intended to support more climate-friendly supply chains.
