The Department of Posts has operationalised a new facility allowing exporters using India Post to avail government export incentives, including duty drawback, remission of duties and taxes on exported products (RoDTEP), and rebates of state and central taxes and levies.

Previously, such benefits were largely restricted to exports routed through ports, airports or private courier services. With the new arrangement, exporters sending goods via the postal network can now access the same incentives. The facility has come into effect from 15 January, following notifications issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).

The Ministry of Communications said the move marks a significant step towards simplifying export procedures and widening access, particularly for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), artisans, start-ups and small exporters, who often rely on India Post for low- and medium-value international consignments.

Exports through the postal channel are being facilitated via Dak Ghar Niryat Kendras (DNKs), a joint initiative of the Department of Posts and CBIC that provides end-to-end export facilitation under one roof. More than 1,000 DNKs are currently operational across India, enabling exporters from remote and underserved regions to connect with global markets.
