JSW Infrastructure has emerged as the highest bidder for the proposed outer container terminal and five Netaji Subhas Dock (NSD) berths at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, marking a significant step in expanding private participation in eastern India’s maritime infrastructure.

The project is expected to strengthen container handling capacity at the Kolkata-based port system and improve cargo movement efficiency across the eastern and northeastern regions of India. Industry observers said the proposed terminal development could help enhance operational capabilities, reduce vessel turnaround time and support growing trade volumes through the port.

The outer container terminal project is aimed at accommodating larger vessels and modernising port infrastructure to meet rising container traffic demand. Development of the NSD berths is also expected to improve multipurpose cargo handling and support a wider range of shipping operations.

Analysts noted that the investment aligns with India’s broader push to modernise port infrastructure under initiatives focused on increasing private sector participation, improving logistics efficiency and expanding multimodal connectivity. Enhanced port capacity in eastern India is expected to support industrial growth and regional trade integration.

JSW Infrastructure has been actively expanding its port and logistics portfolio through capacity additions, acquisitions and terminal development projects across India. The latest bid further strengthens the company’s presence in the maritime and cargo handling sector.
