Port of Tokyo recorded modest growth in container throughput in January, reflecting steady but cautious trade activity in one of Japan’s key maritime gateways.

The increase in TEU volumes was supported by stable import demand for industrial goods, consumer products, and automotive components, along with gradual recovery in select export segments. However, overall growth remained limited due to ongoing global trade uncertainties and shifting shipping patterns.

Port operators noted that efficiency improvements in terminal handling and better vessel scheduling helped maintain smooth operations despite fluctuating cargo demand. The port continues to focus on optimizing logistics performance and strengthening connectivity with major Asian and global shipping routes.

Industry observers say the performance reflects a broader trend of moderate growth across several East Asian ports, as supply chains adjust to evolving demand conditions and geopolitical factors. The Port of Tokyo is expected to maintain stable throughput levels in the coming months, supported by resilient domestic trade activity.
