Three empty freight wagons derailed during a shunting operation on the ACC line at Lakheri railway station in Rajasthan’s Bundi district on Sunday evening. The incident occurred within the railway yard limits and did not disrupt mainline train operations.

According to officials from the Kota Railway Division, the mishap took place around 4 pm when a freight rake was being moved from the station yard towards the ACC cement factory’s private siding in Lakheri. During the shunting process, three wagons derailed on Yard Number 8 of the factory’s private line.

Shiv Shankar Shah, an official of the division, confirmed that the wagons were empty at the time of the incident. As the derailment occurred within the yard and involved no passengers, there were no casualties or injuries reported.

Eyewitnesses said the wagons tilted to one side with a loud noise, prompting railway staff to rush to the site. The situation was quickly brought under control, officials said.

An Accident Relief Train (ART) and a technical team were immediately dispatched from Kota to Lakheri to restore normalcy. The team initiated re-tracking operations and began a technical assessment of the affected section. Officials from the Railway Engineering and Operations departments also reached the site to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Preliminary findings indicate that a possible technical or track-related fault during shunting may have led to the derailment. However, railway authorities stated that the exact cause will be ascertained only after a detailed investigation.

The incident will be examined in accordance with railway safety protocols, and a report will be prepared to prevent similar occurrences in the future, officials added.
