In a landmark development for India’s inland water transport sector, vessels are being drydocked for the first time at Pandu in Guwahati. The operation, conducted under the inspection and guidance of the Indian Register of Shipping, uses an innovative method involving winches and balloons to block vessels — significantly reducing both time and costs.
This breakthrough marks a major step forward in enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of inland waterway operations, paving the way for faster maintenance and improved service reliability on the Brahmaputra and beyond.
