Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), Walid Gamal El-Din, announced that the authority has secured $11.6 billion in investments between 2016 and 2025, with a strong emphasis on localizing industry and advancing green hydrogen production in alignment with Egypt’s National Low-Carbon Hydrogen Strategy.

The announcement came as President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated several new maritime terminals at East Port Said Port. According to a Presidential statement, East Port Said Port now ranks as the top container port in Africa and the third globally, underscoring its rising strategic importance.

Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Industry and Transport, highlighted Egypt’s emergence as a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade. He noted that 14 ports have been upgraded and five new ports established under a comprehensive plan to elevate Egypt’s global standing in logistics and maritime services.

President El-Sisi praised the collective effort behind the SCZone’s progress, stating that Egypt’s achievements reflect its strategic location and the enduring global significance of the Suez Canal. He acknowledged the challenges faced since the SCZone’s launch in 2015 but stressed that determination and coordinated work enabled the state to achieve its goals. The President called for continued momentum to restore Egypt’s leading position in transport, logistics, and trade.

El-Sisi also expressed Egypt’s aspiration to expand investments by Maersk and other global companies, assuring full governmental support and urging accelerated implementation of current projects. Maersk executives announced plans to increase their investments in Egypt in the coming period.

Olivier de Noray, Chairman of the Suez Canal Automotive Terminal (SCAT) and CEO of AGL Ports, confirmed that SCAT’s ongoing projects will establish Egypt as a platform for vehicle production and global export. Meanwhile, Tarek Hussein, Chairman of Sky Ports Group, affirmed that the group’s projects will contribute to transforming Egypt into a world-class logistics hub.
