The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) on Monday said it has carried out a demolition drive against illegal settlements on 62 acres in Kandla port which included removal of 500-odd shanties.
“We had started the demolition drive at 6:30 am and cleared the illegal settlements. This demolition was carried out near liquid jetty 7 removing an estimated 500-odd hutments. We had warned them several times in the past about the impeding drive. The last formal notices were issued on November 25,” an official spokesperson of DPA said.
Officials said that last year, DPA had cleared encroachments from 200 acres of the port land.
