The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) and global shipping major CMA CGM have signed a Terminal Service Agreement aimed at strengthening operational collaboration and attracting higher container volumes to the Port of Colombo.
The agreement underscores a shared commitment to enhancing Colombo’s position as a leading regional transshipment hub through closer coordination and improved terminal utilisation.
The signing ceremony was attended by senior officials from SLPA, including Admiral Sirimewan Ranasinghe (Rtd), Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority; Eng. Ganaka Hemachandra, Managing Director; and Mr. U. Kumara, Director – Marketing & Business Development, along with other senior officers.
CMA CGM was represented by Mr. Shano Sabar, Deputy Managing Director and Chairman of CASA; Mr. Eric van den Driesen, Country General Manager for Sri Lanka and the Maldives; Mr. Pasan Periyapperuma, Head of Operations; and Mr. Romesh Nugera, Assistant Manager – Operations. Representatives from Hayleys Advantis, CMA CGM’s local partner, were also present at the event.
Both parties expressed confidence that the agreement would contribute to increased container throughput, operational efficiency, and long-term growth at the Port of Colombo, reinforcing its strategic role in regional and global shipping networks.
