The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) held an interaction with representatives of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation to discuss regulatory matters concerning maritime insurance and liability frameworks.
The Russian delegation was led by Mr. Nikolay Kapustin, Consul, and Mr. Aleksandr Fursov, Deputy Consul General. Discussions primarily focused on regulatory aspects related to the approval of non-International Group (non-IG) insurers under the Merchant Shipping Act, 2025, with emphasis on compliance requirements, maritime liability regimes, and alignment with international best practices.
The interaction was held in the presence of Shri Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Shipping, along with senior officials from DGS, including Capt. Anish Joseph, Deputy Nautical Advisor; Shri Aniruddha Chaki, Deputy Chief Surveyor; and Shri Nebu Oommen, Deputy Chief Ship Surveyor.
The engagement underscores DGS’s continued efforts to enhance regulatory clarity and strengthen international cooperation in the maritime sector, particularly in areas critical to safety, compliance, and global shipping operations.
