Tokyo-based Mitsui E&S Co., Ltd., along with its affiliate TGE Marine Gas Engineering GmbH of Bonn, Germany, is exploring potential partnerships with Indian shipyards to supply marine engines and specialised ship equipment, aligning with India’s push to expand its domestic shipbuilding capabilities.

A high-level delegation from Mitsui E&S and TGE Marine Gas Engineering is currently visiting India to assess the state of the Indian shipbuilding industry, evaluate growth prospects, and identify potential areas of collaboration, according to a person familiar with the visit.

Mitsui E&S is a leading Japanese heavy-industry company known for manufacturing high-value ship equipment, including marine engines and automated gantry cranes. The company is the largest supplier of gantry cranes in Japan, commanding nearly 90 per cent market share.

TGE Marine Gas Engineering is a globally recognised provider of engineering services for the design and supply of gas carriers, fuel gas systems, and offshore units, with a strong footprint in LNG and alternative fuel technologies.

The visiting delegation from Mitsui E&S includes Yusuke Sakimoto, Executive Officer and General Manager of the Marine Propulsion System Division; Hiroyuki Taguchi, Assistant Manager, Marketing Team, Planning & Administration Department; Takuya Furumura, Sales Department, Indian Market Representative; and Minhazul Miazi, Business Coordinator, Marine Propulsion System Division.

The visit comes at a time when India is seeking to strengthen its shipbuilding and marine manufacturing ecosystem under initiatives aimed at reducing import dependence, boosting local capabilities, and positioning the country as a global maritime and shipbuilding hub.
