The CMA CGM Group marked a significant milestone in Colombia’s maritime sector as its vessel CMA CGM Fiordland became the first large container ship to call at Puerto Antioquia.

The historic arrival signals the operational debut of the new deep-water terminal, strengthening Colombia’s connectivity to global trade lanes and enhancing logistics efficiency for exporters and importers across the region.

Located in the Urabá region, Puerto Antioquia is strategically positioned to serve Colombia’s coffee, banana, and industrial export markets. The port is expected to significantly reduce inland transportation time to key production hubs, particularly Medellín and surrounding areas, while offering improved access to major international shipping routes.

The call by CMA CGM Fiordland underscores growing confidence among global carriers in the terminal’s infrastructure and operational capabilities. Designed to accommodate large container vessels, Puerto Antioquia aims to ease congestion at other Colombian ports and expand the country’s container handling capacity.

Industry stakeholders view the maiden large-vessel call as a transformative step for Colombia’s Caribbean trade corridor, paving the way for increased volumes, enhanced competitiveness, and stronger integration into global supply chains.
