Port terminals in Antwerp have resumed operations after an oil spill temporarily disrupted vessel movements and cargo handling activity, restoring normal flow across one of Europe’s busiest maritime gateways.

Authorities and port operators moved quickly to contain the spill, carry out cleanup operations, and assess navigational safety before allowing terminals to reopen in phases.

The temporary shutdown had affected selected berth operations and inland logistics connections, raising concerns over short-term delays for container, bulk, and tanker traffic moving through the Belgian hub.

With operations now restarted, shipping lines and terminal operators are expected to work through residual schedule backlogs while prioritizing cargo clearance and vessel turnaround times.
