COSCO Shipping has launched the North Africa Express service, a new liner network aimed at strengthening maritime trade links between major markets and key ports across North Africa.
The service is expected to enhance connectivity for cargo moving between Asia, the Mediterranean, and North African economies by offering faster transit options and more regular sailings. Improved shipping frequency can help businesses manage inventory, reduce lead times, and diversify sourcing routes.
Industry observers said the launch reflects rising trade demand in sectors such as consumer goods, machinery, construction materials, automotive components, textiles, and agricultural products across the region.
North Africa has become an increasingly important logistics gateway due to its proximity to Europe, growing industrial bases, and strategic location along major east-west shipping corridors. Ports in countries such as Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia are attracting greater carrier interest.
COSCO Shipping’s new service also signals continued competition among global container lines to expand presence in emerging trade lanes and capture regional cargo growth.
Analysts said the North Africa Express could support stronger supply chain integration between African and international markets while improving route flexibility for exporters and importers using the region’s ports.
