Operational congestion at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has triggered growing tensions among shipping lines, terminal operators, transporters and customs stakeholders, with each side blaming the other for worsening delays and supply chain disruptions.

The congestion has led to extended container dwell times, long truck queues and delays in cargo evacuation, affecting importers, exporters and logistics operators across India’s busiest container gateway.

Industry stakeholders cited multiple causes behind the bottlenecks, including rising cargo volumes, infrastructure constraints, equipment shortages, gate congestion and delays in documentation and customs clearance processes.

Transporters and freight operators have raised concerns over poor traffic management and inadequate coordination among terminals, while terminal operators pointed to delayed cargo pickups and pressure on yard capacity.

The ongoing congestion at JNPA has increased logistics costs and disrupted shipping schedules, prompting calls from trade bodies and industry participants for faster operational coordination, infrastructure upgrades and digital process improvements to ease pressure on the port ecosystem.
