Godrej Enterprises Group has unveiled India’s first MultiIon battery technology for electric forklifts, aiming to improve efficiency, sustainability, and uptime across the country’s rapidly expanding warehousing and logistics sector. The new battery system has been launched through the company’s Material Handling Equipment (MHE) business as demand rises for advanced energy solutions in industrial operations.
The MultiIon battery technology combines fast charging, opportunity charging, zero-maintenance operation, and higher energy efficiency, while reducing dependency on rare earth materials and lowering disposal-related challenges. Godrej said the technology can help reduce total cost of ownership by nearly 25% while supporting cleaner and more reliable warehouse operations.
Developed in partnership with an Indian deep-tech battery innovator, the battery system offers up to 5,000 life cycles, around 60% higher than conventional lithium-ion alternatives, enabling it to last through the operational lifespan of forklifts. The technology is also designed to operate efficiently in temperatures above 45°C, making it suitable for Indian industrial and warehouse conditions.
The launch comes as India’s industrial and warehousing market continues to expand, supported by rising demand from e-commerce companies, third-party logistics providers, and manufacturing firms. Industry estimates show warehousing leasing across the top eight Indian cities crossed 11 million square feet during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting strong growth in supply chain infrastructure investments.
Anil Lingayat, Business Head of Material Handling Equipment at Godrej Enterprises Group, said the company is focusing on engineering-led innovation and sustainable industrial solutions to support the evolving logistics ecosystem. The new battery technology has reportedly undergone over 5,000 hours of field validation and is backed by a seven-year warranty.
