Port of Rotterdam has pushed back against calls for stricter restrictions on fossil fuel activities, highlighting the need to balance energy transition goals with supply chain security and economic stability.

The port authority said that while it supports the shift toward cleaner energy and sustainable operations, a rapid reduction in fossil fuel-related activities could create challenges for industries and energy supply networks that still depend on existing infrastructure.

Rotterdam, one of the world’s largest energy and logistics hubs, is continuing efforts to support renewable energy projects while maintaining its role in global energy trade.

The debate reflects the wider challenge facing major ports as they navigate the transition to low-carbon systems while managing current energy demands and industrial requirements.
