Denmark-based Celsius Shipping has taken delivery of Celsius Georgetown, the first in a series of 12 next-generation 180,000-cubic-metre LNG carriers being built by China Merchants Shipbuilding Industry (CMSI) at its Haimen shipyard.
Designed by Finland’s Deltamarin, the vessel is the largest LNG carrier to be independently designed and constructed in China. Measuring 298.8 metres in length with a 48-metre beam, Celsius Georgetown has a deadweight of 96,000 tonnes, a gross tonnage exceeding 120,000, and a cargo carrying capacity of 180,000 cubic metres.
The LNG carrier is powered by two MAN 5GME-C10-GA dual-fuel main engines capable of operating on LNG, enabling a service speed of 19.5 knots and a sailing range of around 22,000 nautical miles. It is equipped with GTT membrane cargo containment tanks that maintain LNG at temperatures as low as -163°C while minimizing boil-off gas losses. An advanced air lubrication system has also been incorporated to reduce hull resistance and improve fuel efficiency.
Classed by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and registered under the Marshall Islands flag, Celsius Georgetown marks the first delivery under Celsius Shipping’s 12-vessel newbuilding programme with CMSI. The shipbuilder has confirmed that the next four LNG carriers in the series are already nearing sea trials, reflecting steady progress in the fleet expansion programme.
