Bangladesh and China have taken a significant step forward in strengthening bilateral industrial cooperation with the signing of a developer agreement for the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone (CEIZ) in Anwara, Chattogram.
The agreement, signed in Beijing between the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), the Prime Minister’s Office, and China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), marks the transition of the long-awaited project from planning to implementation. The move comes as Bangladesh seeks to attract greater foreign direct investment and expand its manufacturing base.
Spread across approximately 800 acres near Chattogram Port, the CEIZ is strategically positioned to serve as a major manufacturing and export hub for Chinese industries. The zone is expected to attract large-scale investments in high-value manufacturing sectors, generate around 50,000 jobs, and strengthen Bangladesh’s export competitiveness by integrating local industries into regional and global supply chains.
The project is regarded as one of the flagship initiatives of Bangladesh-China industrial cooperation. After years of delays, the developer agreement is expected to accelerate infrastructure development and pave the way for Chinese manufacturers to establish production facilities in the zone.
The latest development also aligns with broader efforts by both countries to deepen economic ties, promote industrial investment, and enhance Bangladesh’s role as a regional manufacturing destination.
