Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan has urged the Central Government to extend financial and policy support for the development of an integrated airport-port hub, saying the project could significantly strengthen the state’s logistics infrastructure and enhance its role in India’s international trade network.

Satheesan said improved integration between airport and seaport facilities would enable faster and more efficient movement of cargo, benefiting key export sectors such as seafood, spices, rubber products, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and perishables. He noted that seamless multimodal connectivity would help reduce logistics costs, improve transit times, and enhance the global competitiveness of Kerala’s exporters.

The proposed integrated development is expected to focus on strengthening road and rail links between ports, airports, industrial clusters, and logistics parks, creating a unified transport ecosystem capable of handling rising cargo volumes. Industry experts believe such infrastructure would support both domestic distribution and international trade while attracting new investments in manufacturing and warehousing.

Satheesan emphasized that central assistance would be crucial for accelerating large-scale infrastructure projects that require coordinated planning between state and national agencies. He said the initiative aligns with the country’s broader objective of improving multimodal logistics under national infrastructure development programmes.

Stakeholders believe that an integrated airport-port hub could position Kerala as a key logistics gateway on India’s west coast, supporting trade growth, generating employment, and enhancing the efficiency of regional and global supply chains.
