Etihad Cargo is expanding its air freight capacity serving Shanghai to 840 tonnes per week, strengthening its cargo operations between the United Arab Emirates and one of China’s major commercial and manufacturing centres.

The capacity increase is expected to provide additional space for businesses shipping high-value goods, electronics, e-commerce consignments, pharmaceuticals and other time-sensitive products. The expansion also supports growing trade flows between China and international markets through Abu Dhabi.

The additional capacity follows the reinstatement of Etihad Airways’ daily Boeing 787-10 passenger service to Shanghai on October 1, alongside seven weekly Boeing 777 freighter flights. The combined operations provide approximately 840 tonnes of cargo capacity per week from Shanghai.

According to Etihad Cargo, the restored capacity is intended to support seasonal demand and strengthen connectivity through its Abu Dhabi hub to markets across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas. E-commerce, high-tech products, pharmaceuticals and high-value industrial equipment are among the cargo segments that could benefit from the additional capacity.
