Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) has appointed former Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer Niraj Bansal as its new CEO-Ports with effect from June 1, 2026, marking a key leadership transition at India’s largest private port operator.

The appointment was disclosed through a regulatory filing on Monday, in which the company also confirmed that Pranav Choudhary will step down from the position on May 31, 2026, to pursue opportunities outside the Adani Group.

Bansal, who joined the Adani Group in October 2022, currently serves as CEO – New Port Project Development, Maharashtra. Over the past few years, he has played an important role in expanding the group’s port infrastructure initiatives and strengthening strategic development projects. Prior to this assignment, he headed Hazira Port, where he was involved in enhancing operational performance and cargo handling capabilities.

Before entering the private sector, Bansal had a distinguished career in public service spanning more than 27 years in the Indian Revenue Service. He voluntarily retired from the post of Commissioner of Income Tax before joining the Adani Group.

One of the notable phases of his career was his tenure at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (formerly JNPT), where he served as Deputy Chairman and Chairman-in-Charge between 2014 and 2019. During this period, the port recorded its highest-ever cargo handling volume of 66 million metric tonnes in FY2017-18, reflecting strong operational growth and efficiency improvements under his leadership.

Industry observers believe Bansal’s extensive experience across public administration, port management and infrastructure development will support APSEZ’s continued expansion plans and strengthen its position in India’s maritime and logistics sector.

APSEZ, the flagship ports business of the Adani Group, operates a network of ports and logistics assets across India and continues to expand its footprint in maritime infrastructure, cargo handling and integrated supply chain solutions.
