The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Narendra Modi, has approved three major rail multi-tracking projects worth ₹23,437 crore, aimed at significantly enhancing capacity and efficiency across key routes of Indian Railways.

According to the official statement, the projects will increase line capacity, improve mobility, and strengthen operational efficiency while ensuring better service reliability. The initiative is expected to ease congestion on busy corridors and streamline rail operations.

The projects will be implemented under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, focusing on integrated planning, multimodal connectivity, and logistics optimisation through coordinated stakeholder engagement.

    The approved corridors include:

    • Nagda–Mathura
    • Guntakal–Wadi
    • Burhwal–Sitapur

Spanning 19 districts across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, the projects will add approximately 901 km to the existing rail network.

The enhanced connectivity is expected to benefit key tourist destinations such as Mahakaleshwar Temple, Ranthambore National Park, Kuno National Park, Keoladeo National Park, Mathura, Vrindavan, and Mantralayam Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt.

In addition to passenger benefits, the corridors are critical for transporting bulk commodities such as coal, foodgrains, cement, petroleum products, iron and steel, iron ore, containers, and fertilisers. The capacity augmentation is projected to enable additional freight movement of up to 60 million tonnes annually, reinforcing rail’s role in India’s logistics ecosystem.
