South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), the second-largest coal-producing subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) to enhance coal logistics, railway rake provisioning, and integrated transportation services.

The strategic partnership is aimed at improving coal evacuation efficiency and strengthening India’s energy supply chain through dedicated rail logistics solutions. The collaboration aligns with the Ministry of Coal’s efforts to bolster the country’s coal transportation infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted fuel supply to key industries.

Under the agreement, SECL and CWC will jointly explore dedicated railway rake operations under the General Purpose Wagon Investment Scheme (GPWIS) and similar frameworks, along with integrated rail logistics services and long-term transportation solutions. The partnership will also focus on multimodal logistics, first-mile and last-mile connectivity, and the deployment of digital systems for logistics monitoring and operational efficiency.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Harish Duhan, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of SECL, and Santosh Sinha, Managing Director of CWC, along with senior officials from both organisations.

SECL said the collaboration is expected to strengthen its coal dispatch capabilities and help meet rising demand from the power, steel, cement and other core sectors while reducing logistical bottlenecks.

SECL continues to play a key role in meeting the country’s growing coal requirements. During the ongoing financial year 2026-27, Coal India Limited has already crossed the 100 million tonne production milestone, with SECL contributing more than 26.8 million tonnes, the highest among CIL subsidiaries.

CWC, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Government of India, is a leading provider of integrated logistics and warehousing services with extensive expertise in rail-linked cargo movement and multimodal transportation solutions.
