French shipping major CMA CGM has announced a restructuring of its weekly India–Mediterranean (Medex) loop rotation as part of ongoing efforts to improve service reliability and align operations with current Red Sea conditions.

Under the revised rotation, the service now includes calls at Malta, Port Said (Egypt) and Beirut, while removing previous port calls at Valencia and Barcelona in Spain as well as Fos-sur-Mer in France. The changes aim to better meet cargo demand patterns and streamline operations amid persistent Red Sea uncertainties that have prompted carriers to rethink traditional routing strategies.

The adjustment reflects broader industry responses to the turbulent maritime environment created by regional security issues, which have at times forced vessels to bypass the Suez Canal entirely in favor of longer routes around Africa’s Cape of Good Hope. Carriers have been cautiously testing transits back through the Red Sea and Suez as security conditions stabilize.

CMA CGM’s updated rotation signals a continued emphasis on network flexibility while preserving service links between South Asia and key Mediterranean gateways — a priority for shippers seeking more predictable schedules in an evolving global trade landscape.

Journal of Commerce reporting indicates that such service redesigns are part of a broader trend among ocean carriers to optimize port rotations, improve schedule reliability, and adapt to dynamic geopolitical and operational challenges impacting Red Sea transits.
