The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) on Wednesday inaugurated the country’s first private Gati Shakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) on its Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) near Surat, Gujarat.
The New Sanjali Terminal, spanning approximately 120 acres, is developed by the Sawariya Shakti Group. It has been developed on private land, aligning with Schedule-1 of the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) policy, which promotes private investment in crucial logistics infrastructure.
According to the company’s statement, the terminal is strategically located to provide seamless connectivity to Gujarat’s major industrial hubs, including Panoli Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), Ankleshwar, and Jhagadia. Furthermore, it offers vital links to key ports such as Dahej, Hazira, and Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT), enhancing regional and national trade efficiency.
It will provide direct access to National Highway-48 and National Expressway-4, ensuring smooth road movements, with the proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) situated just six kilometers away.
The terminal also includes two Receipt & Dispatch lines integrated with both DFCCIL and Indian Railways’ main network, a sprawling 28-acre Inland Container Depot (ICD), and 650,000 sq. ft. of warehousing infrastructure, which notably comprises a 54,000 sq. ft. bonded warehouse, PESO (Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation)-certified storage, and cold chain facilities.
Officials stated that this fully integrated logistics complex is set to significantly improve freight handling efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and lower operational costs for businesses.
