East Central Railway (ECR) earned a record Rs 18,439 crore until October, achieving 55% of its annual target of Rs 33,624 crore in 2024-25 from both passenger and goods traffic — 5.25% more as compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, said General Manager (GM) Chatrasal Singh on Thursday.
Singh, who held a high-level review meeting at the ECR headquarters in Hajipur late on Wednesday, added that the railways earned Rs 15,304 crore from freight loading, and Rs 2,767 crore from the passenger segment.
The GM attributed this to enhanced freight operations and a steady recovery in passenger traffic post-pandemic. “The increase in earnings is seen as a result of continued improvement in infrastructure, service offerings and operational efficiency within the ECR region,” he said.
He further said that the railways are keeping a close watch on the redevelopment work under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Under this ambitious initiative, the ECR is undertaking renovation and modernisation of 97 stations across its jurisdiction.
These stations are being upgraded with state-of-the-art facilities to ensure enhanced comfort, accessibility and safety for passengers. The GM said that modernised stations will feature improved waiting areas, digital signage, better sanitation facilities and more efficient ticketing systems, among other upgrades.
