The first trial container rake successfully arrived at the Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP), also known as the Dry Port project, in Jalna on Monday, marking a major milestone for the industrial and logistics sectors in the Marathwada region.
District Collector Ashima Mittal welcomed the inaugural rake and described the development as the formal beginning of rail-linked freight operations for Jalna and the wider Marathwada region.
The inbound container rake carried sponge iron cargo for a private company and reached the railway siding within the MMLP premises. Officials said the successful trial paves the way for integrated multi-modal freight movement by connecting rail, road, and port infrastructure under a single logistics network.
The Jalna district administration credited the successful execution of the project to coordinated efforts by Indian Railways, Customs authorities, state government agencies, and other stakeholders involved in the development.
The Jalna MMLP is being developed as India’s first dry port project through National Highways Logistics Management Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of National Highways Authority of India, in partnership with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority.
The project is being implemented under a special purpose vehicle named Maharashtra MMLP Private Limited (MMPL). The first phase of the dry port project has been commissioned over an area of approximately 64.5 acres, strengthening Jalna’s position as an emerging logistics and industrial hub in central India.
