The Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB) has accelerated the preparation of detailed project reports (DPRs) following the state government’s announcement of a proposed port at Mahuva in Bhavnagar district. The move is part of Gujarat’s broader strategy to expand maritime infrastructure and enhance coastal logistics efficiency.

As part of this vision, the state has proposed port development at both Dahej and Mahuva to strengthen cargo-handling capacity, improve navigational infrastructure, and support long-term operational efficiency. The Mahuva port, in particular, is expected to play a key role in supporting agro-industrial activities and regional trade, given its strategic location and potential for capacity expansion and modernization.

To take the projects forward, GMB has initiated the process of appointing a specialised consultant to prepare DPRs for both ports. The reports will comprehensively assess technical, financial, environmental, and operational parameters and serve as the foundation for developing modern, efficient, safe, and sustainable port infrastructure.

Once finalised, the DPRs will guide future investment and implementation, aligning the projects with national maritime priorities and global industry benchmarks. The initiatives are expected to further reinforce Gujarat’s position as a leader in India’s port-led development strategy.

With a 2,340-km coastline, robust port infrastructure, and well-established industrial clusters, Gujarat also enjoys a natural advantage in promoting large-scale shipbuilding and the broader marine and maritime ecosystem.
