The International Air Transport Association (IATA) reported strong global air cargo growth in June, highlighting continued resilience in the sector despite ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainties. Rising international trade, expanding e-commerce activity, and sustained demand for high-value and time-sensitive shipments supported higher cargo volumes during the month.

According to IATA, air cargo demand increased across most major regions, with international freight traffic continuing to outperform long-term trends. Airlines also benefited from stable capacity growth as additional passenger flights restored belly-hold cargo space, helping improve network connectivity and meet growing shipping requirements.

The strongest demand came from sectors such as e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and perishables, where speed and reliability remain critical. Improvements in supply chain efficiency and resilient cross-border trade also contributed to the positive performance, while exporters increasingly relied on air freight for urgent and high-value consignments.

IATA noted that the industry continues to face challenges, including geopolitical tensions, trade policy uncertainties, and fluctuating fuel prices. However, the association said the air cargo market has demonstrated strong adaptability, supported by digitalization, enhanced operational efficiency, and sustained investment in specialized cargo services.

Looking ahead, IATA expects air cargo demand to remain on a positive trajectory, underpinned by recovering global trade, expanding manufacturing activity, and continued growth in cross-border e-commerce. Airlines are expected to further strengthen their cargo networks and invest in technology and infrastructure to capitalize on evolving market opportunities.
