The Transporters Association operating in and around Kandla and Mundra Ports has announced an indefinite strike starting from 12 September 2025, citing long-standing grievances over the poor condition of roads in the region.
Despite repeated representations made to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) over the past year, the Association stated that no significant measures have been taken to repair and maintain key road networks that serve India’s two largest ports.
In protest, members of the Association will launch a “No Road, No Toll” movement beginning 12 September, under which they will refuse to pay toll charges until the road conditions are brought up to acceptable standards.
As part of the strike, the Association has confirmed that all cargo transport operations in and out of Mundra Port and Kandla Port will remain suspended until its demands are addressed by the concerned authorities.
In solidarity, all transport unions across the Kutch district have also announced a voluntary indefinite closure of services starting 12 September 2025, which is expected to cause significant disruptions to cargo movement and supply chains across the region.
A spokesperson for the Transporters Association said: “We have been raising this issue for more than a year, but our appeals have gone unheard. The deteriorating condition of roads is not only causing heavy losses to transporters but also creating severe safety risks. Until the NHAI takes urgent and concrete action, our strike will continue.”
The strike is expected to have a substantial impact on trade flows through Kandla and Mundra Ports, both critical gateways for India’s exports and imports.
