India has strongly condemned the recent attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, warning that such incidents endanger innocent crew members and threaten global trade.

Speaking at the United Nations, India’s Deputy Permanent Representative Yojna Patel said that, as a major trading nation, India “strongly condemns” any targeting of merchant vessels. She stressed that the safety of seafarers must be ensured and that freedom of navigation should be respected at all times.

India highlighted that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime corridors, handling a substantial share of global oil and gas shipments. Any disruption in the region, it noted, could have serious implications for energy security, supply chains, and international commerce.

Calling for restraint, India urged all parties involved in the ongoing tensions in West Asia to avoid further escalation. It emphasized the need for adherence to international law and the protection of civilian shipping.

Reiterating its position, India also called on the global community to work collectively to ensure safe and uninterrupted passage through key sea lanes, while safeguarding the welfare of seafarers operating in the region.

India’s statement comes amid heightened tensions and a series of incidents affecting maritime traffic in the Gulf, raising concerns over the stability of one of the world’s busiest shipping routes.
