The proposed India–US trade framework has raised expectations of a sharp export boost for Tamil Nadu’s textile and garment industry, with exporters projecting a potential doubling of shipments to the US market over the next few years.
Industry representatives said reduced tariffs and improved market access under the framework could significantly enhance the competitiveness of Tamil Nadu–based manufacturers, particularly knitwear hubs such as Tiruppur. Garment exports from the state to the US are estimated to rise to nearly ₹30,000 crore if the agreement is implemented as outlined.
Exporters also expect the deal to encourage fresh investments, capacity expansion, and job creation across the textile value chain. However, they cautioned that timely implementation and clarity on rules of origin and compliance norms will be critical to fully realise the benefits of the trade framework.
