Indian Railways is gearing up to launch its new Gati Shakti Freight EMU trains, a major leap towards faster, greener, and more efficient cargo movement.
🔹 Boost for Logistics:
Designed at Chennai’s Integral Coach Factory, these semi-high-speed trains will cater to e-commerce and FMCG sectors, featuring advanced container handling and better crew facilities.
🔹 Freight Growth:
Freight loading has surged from 1,233 MT (2020-21) to 1,591 MT (2023-24) — a 29% rise. Shifting goods from road to rail is helping cut emissions, lower fuel costs, and ease highway congestion.
🔹 Dedicated Freight Corridors:
-
Eastern DFC: Ludhiana–Sonnagar (1,337 km)
-
Western DFC: JNPT–Dadri (1,506 km)
✅ 96.4% (2,741 km) already operational
✅ Over 1.3 lakh freight trains handled in FY 2024-25
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said new freight corridors focused on energy, minerals, cement & high-density routes will further boost supply chain efficiency.
With Gati Shakti trains, Indian Railways is laying tracks for a future-ready, sustainable, and cost-efficient freight ecosystem.
