India’s coffee exports have surged to a record $1.8 billion in FY 2024–25, marking a remarkable 40.2% growth over $1.28 billion in the previous fiscal year, according to the Department of Commerce under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This milestone cements India’s billion-dollar coffee export streak for the fourth consecutive year.
The Commerce Ministry attributed this strong performance to rising global demand for India’s distinct Arabica and Robusta beans, prized for their rich aroma and complex flavour profiles. While most of India’s coffee exports are unroasted beans, the ministry noted a growing international appetite for value-added products such as roasted and instant coffee—further fueling export momentum.
India’s coffee is predominantly cultivated in the lush Western and Eastern Ghats, renowned for their biodiversity and ideal growing conditions. Karnataka remains the largest producer, followed by Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The country now ranks as the world’s seventh-largest coffee producer, with exports almost doubling since FY 2020–21, when they stood at $719 million.
With its expanding production base, growing export potential, and strong government support, Indian coffee continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the most flavorful and sustainable brews in the world.
