Israel has carried out airstrikes on Houthi targets at Yemen’s Hodeidah port, in what it described as a direct response to missile launches and attacks on Red Sea shipping by the Iran-aligned group.

The strikes mark a further escalation in the regional fallout from the ongoing war in Gaza, media reports.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the measures were aimed at “forcefully countering any attempt to restore the terror infrastructure previously attacked.”

He added: “As I have made clear – Yemen’s fate is the same as Tehran’s. The Houthis will pay a heavy price for launching missiles toward the State of Israel.”

It is noted that the Israeli military asserted that Hodeidah port was being used “among other things, to transfer weapons from the Iranian regime, which are then used by the Houthi to execute terrorist attacks against the State of Israel and its allies.”

This latest strike follows several Houthi assaults on commercial vessels, including a recent incident involving the Greek ship Eternity C, which resulted in four fatalities.
