Shri Vijay Kumar, Chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), chaired a meeting to review the effective management and operations of IWAI’s premier training and development institutes, including the National Inland Navigation Institute (NINI), Patna, and the Maritime Skill Development Centre (MSDC), Guwahati.

The discussions focused on strengthening skill training, upgrading curriculum in line with industry requirements, and enhancing employability opportunities for youth in the inland waterways and maritime logistics sector. Emphasis was laid on ensuring that training modules are aligned with modern vessel operations, cargo handling practices, and safety standards to create a pool of highly skilled professionals.

The Chairman highlighted the crucial role of NINI and MSDC in supporting India’s growing inland water transport ecosystem and directed officials to adopt innovative teaching methods, expand industry partnerships, and explore international collaborations.

IWAI aims to position these institutes as centres of excellence, providing world-class training that will contribute to India’s vision of sustainable and efficient waterways transport.
