Japanese shipping company K Line has named the ninth liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier built for QatarEnergy, marking another milestone in the long-term fleet expansion programme supporting Qatar’s growing LNG export capacity.
The naming ceremony underscores the continued collaboration between K Line, QatarEnergy, shipbuilders, and other project partners as Qatar advances one of the world’s largest LNG fleet renewal and expansion initiatives. The new vessel will transport LNG from Qatar’s North Field expansion projects to customers across Asia, Europe, and other international markets.
Built with advanced propulsion and energy-efficient technologies, the LNG carrier is designed to deliver enhanced fuel efficiency, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and improved operational performance. The vessel incorporates modern cargo containment systems and environmental features that align with the maritime industry’s decarbonisation goals and increasingly stringent international regulations.
The addition of the ninth vessel strengthens K Line’s LNG fleet and reinforces its position in the global energy shipping sector. It also supports QatarEnergy’s strategy to expand its LNG transportation capacity in line with rising global demand for cleaner energy and the significant increase in production expected from the North Field East and North Field South projects.
K Line said the vessel reflects its commitment to providing safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible LNG transportation services. As more newbuild LNG carriers enter service under QatarEnergy’s fleet expansion programme, the partnership is expected to play a key role in ensuring secure and efficient LNG deliveries to global energy markets.
