The Port of Los Angeles handled more than 1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) in June, marking the third time in the port’s history that monthly container throughput has crossed the million-TEU milestone. The strong performance underscores sustained import demand and the port’s growing role in facilitating trans-Pacific trade.

The June cargo volumes were driven by robust import activity, as retailers and manufacturers accelerated shipments ahead of the peak holiday season and continued to adjust supply chains amid evolving global trade conditions. Export volumes also remained steady, while efficient terminal operations supported faster cargo movement across the port complex.

Port officials attributed the strong results to close collaboration among terminal operators, shipping lines, truckers, rail providers, and labour groups, which helped maintain smooth cargo flows despite ongoing market uncertainties. Continued investments in digital technologies, infrastructure upgrades, and operational efficiency have also strengthened the port’s ability to handle growing cargo volumes.

As the busiest container gateway in the United States, the Port of Los Angeles continues to play a critical role in connecting Asian manufacturing hubs with North American consumer markets. The latest milestone highlights the resilience of global supply chains and reflects steady demand for containerised trade despite geopolitical tensions and shifting trade patterns.

Looking ahead, port authorities expect cargo volumes to remain healthy through the second half of the year as importers prepare for seasonal demand and businesses continue to diversify sourcing strategies. The port remains focused on improving productivity, reducing emissions, and enhancing supply chain reliability to support long-term growth in international trade.
