Kerala Exporters Forum is exploring new avenues to import quality vegetables, honey and other perishables from Nepal to strengthen supply chains serving Middle East markets.
A delegation led by Forum president Munshid Ali visited Nepal recently and signed an MoU with the Pokhara Chamber of Commerce and Industry to facilitate the supply of Nepalese farm products to Kerala-based exporters. The initiative aims to support exporters who handle high-demand perishable cargo for Gulf buyers.
Push for Air Connectivity
During discussions, Nepal’s Gandaki Province Minister Mithralal Bansal highlighted the potential for Nepal Airlines to begin services to Calicut and Cochin international airports. He said such connectivity would support seamless movement of perishables from Nepal while encouraging Kerala tourists to travel to destinations like Kathmandu, Pokhara and Lumbini, boosting Nepal’s tourism sector.
Call for a Customs Free Zone
The meeting also underlined the need for Nepal Customs to establish a free zone for cargo import and transshipment to support cross-border trade. Such a zone, officials noted, would enable Indian exporters to source larger volumes through Nepal’s special economic zone framework.
Tourism Promotion & Bilateral Trade
Kerala exporters extended an invitation to Nepalese officials to visit the State, showcase tourism offerings, and strengthen bilateral engagement. With four international airports in Kerala, stakeholders expressed confidence that both tourism and trade flows between Kerala and Nepal could see significant growth in the coming years.
