Kuehne+Nagel has appointed Swissport to handle Atlas Air Boeing 747 freighter operations at Liège Airport, strengthening cargo handling capabilities at one of Europe’s key air freight hubs.

The partnership will support handling operations for Atlas Air’s Boeing 747F services operated on behalf of Kuehne+Nagel, as the logistics company expands its air cargo presence at Liège Airport in Belgium.

Industry sources said the move reflects growing demand for specialised freighter handling services amid rising global air cargo volumes and increased use of dedicated charter networks for time-sensitive shipments.

Liège Airport has continued to strengthen its position as a major European cargo gateway due to its 24/7 operations, cargo-focused infrastructure, and strategic location within Europe’s logistics network.

The Atlas Air Boeing 747-8F aircraft deployed for the operations offers payload capacity exceeding 140 metric tonnes and supports long-haul freight movement across global trade lanes.

Swissport is expected to provide ramp handling, warehouse services, and cargo processing support for the freighter flights, helping ensure efficient movement of express, temperature-controlled, and industrial cargo shipments through the airport.

Logistics analysts noted that partnerships between freight forwarders, airlines, and cargo handling companies are becoming increasingly important as global supply chains demand faster turnaround times, greater reliability, and specialised handling capabilities for high-value cargo.
