A landmark move to modernise port logistics gained momentum with the formal exchange of a Quadripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a Real-Time Automatic Cargo Evacuation System at Machilipatnam Port. Originally signed on November 9, the MoU was officially exchanged during the Partnership Summit 2025 held in Visakhapatnam.

The agreement brings together four key entities — BEML Ltd, Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board (APMB), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), and Umeandus Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. (UTIPL) — establishing a collaborative Port Alliance to drive this transformative project.

Under the partnership framework, APMB will serve as the client, while DMRC, as the lead member, will work alongside BEML and UTIPL to jointly execute the pilot initiative. The consortium will conceptualise, design, and implement the Enhanced Freight Transport System (e-FTS) at Machilipatnam Port.

The e-FTS is envisioned as a cutting-edge logistics solution that will automate cargo movement, enable real-time monitoring, and significantly enhance operational efficiency. Once operational, the system is expected to boost port productivity, reduce cargo turnaround time, and position Machilipatnam Port as a future-ready maritime logistics hub.

The initiative aligns with India’s broader strategy to modernise port infrastructure through advanced, technology-driven solutions. By enabling faster cargo evacuation, improved tracking, and seamless coordination across the supply chain, the project is poised to strengthen the competitiveness of India’s maritime trade.
