Madras Fertilizers Limited (MFL) has proposed a ₹10,300-crore greenfield ammonia-urea manufacturing project in Chennai, aimed at strengthening domestic fertiliser production and reducing import dependence. The proposed facility is expected to significantly enhance India’s urea capacity while adopting modern, energy-efficient technologies.
The project, which will include an integrated ammonia and urea plant, is aligned with the government’s broader push for self-reliance in critical agri-inputs and improved food security. Once commissioned, it is expected to support farmers with a stable supply of fertilisers and generate employment during both construction and operational phases.
The proposal is currently awaiting approval from the Centre. Upon receiving the necessary clearances, MFL is expected to move ahead with detailed engineering, financing arrangements, and project execution.
