Sh. Praveen Kumar, Managing Director, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd. (DFCCIL), conducted an inspection visit at the New Gulaothi Goods Cargo Terminal (GCT – Schedule-2) on the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), accompanied by senior officials including Sh. Pawan Kumar Rai, Director (Projects & Planning); Sh. Ajay Kumar, Executive Director (Asset Management); Sh. Pankaj Kumar, CGM/Ambala; Sh. A. S. Tomar, GGM/S&T; and Sh. Akhilesh Kumar Srivastava, GM/Electrical.
Developed under the Ambala Unit, the New Gulaothi GCT is emerging as a critical logistics hub aimed at strengthening first-mile and last-mile connectivity for regional industries and agri-produce. Strategically located in Western Uttar Pradesh, the terminal is designed to support faster evacuation of freight from nearby industrial clusters, agricultural markets, and MSME hubs.
Significantly, New Gulaothi is the first GCT being developed on the EDFC stretch between Khurja and Sahnewal, marking an important milestone in the corridor’s phased commissioning. Once operational, the terminal will enable quicker rake handling, decongestion of existing freight terminals, and improved freight reliability, while substantially reducing logistics time and cost.
The GCT is expected to play a vital role in optimising corridor utilisation, enhancing supply chain efficiency, and supporting India’s multimodal logistics vision. By facilitating seamless rail-based cargo movement, the New Gulaothi GCT will strengthen the EDFC’s role as a high-capacity freight backbone and provide a significant boost to economic activity across Western UP and adjoining regions.
