Navalt, the visionary pioneers behind Aditya, India’s first solar-electric ferry, SRAV, the world’s inaugural solar-electric fishing boat, and Barracuda, India’s fastest solar-electric boat, proudly introduces their latest marvel – Indra.

This premium, air-conditioned, double-decker catamaran stands as the largest solar-electric boat in India, a testament to the commitment towards sustainable water transport. Indra, commissioned by the Kerala State Water Transport Department, symbolizes a milestone in the journey towards eco-friendly cruise tourism. With a capacious 100-passenger seating, the bottom deck offers a luxurious air-conditioned ambiance, while the top deck provides a semi-open space for additional activities, ensuring an unforgettable experience for travelers.

Powered by twin 20 kW electric motors and supported by two independent marine-grade LFP battery packs (40 kWh each), Indra achieves a top speed of 7 knots. Its 25 kW solar panels efficiently charge the batteries and support auxiliary loads. The boat guarantees a seamless 10-hour cruising experience, presenting an ideal blend of efficiency and sustainability.

Measuring 26 meters in length and 7 meters in width, Indra’s grandeur was unveiled by the Honourable Shri. Roshi Augustine, Minister of Irrigation, Kerala, on December 15, 2023, at 10:30 am. The inaugural ceremony took place at IWAI Terminal Punnamada, Alappuzha, with the gracious presence of Shri. Anthony Raju, Minister of Transport, Kerala, A M Ariff, Member of Parliament, Alappuzha, Kerala SWTD Director Shri Shaji V Nair, local dignitaries, and media personnel.

Following the inauguration, Minister Shri. Roshi Augustine, along with other dignitaries, embarked on a voyage aboard Indra, experiencing firsthand the revolutionary blend of technology and sustainability.

In an ambitious initiative, Navalt is set to construct 16 solar-electric boats for the Kerala SWTD, including solar-electric ferries and two solar-electric Roll-On/Roll-Off vessels (ROROs). This commitment underscores Navalt’s dedication to ushering in a new era of clean, efficient, and responsible water transportation.
