NTC Logistics has once again demonstrated its unmatched expertise in handling over-dimensional cargo (ODC) with the successful transport of a 142-tonne unit from Ambikanagar, Karnataka, to Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu — a journey spanning over 850 km and testing every facet of engineering precision, operational planning, and sheer determination.
The cargo, measuring 7.6 m in length, 3.5 m in width, and 4.7 m in height, faced its toughest trial in the very first 110 km. The West Coast monsoon struck hard just after loading, forcing NTC to halt at a critical section where road shoulders were to be extended using 500 sandbags.
With the full backing of the client, NTC’s technical team deployed three pullers to tackle the first five kilometres of treacherous hairpin bends, overcoming the initial challenge. Tree trimming operations followed, but at the 40 km mark, a fresh hurdle emerged — a deteriorating British-era stone arch bridge, weakened further by the rains.
An alternate RCC bridge nearby was incomplete, lacking approach roads. After 15 days of exploring every possible detour without success, the NTC team took matters into their own hands. MS steel plates were sourced from Gujarat, a fourth puller was brought in from Chennai, and with the cooperation of the State Highways department, an access road was built. This allowed the convoy to cross safely, marking a pivotal moment in the journey.
Five days later, the cargo rolled into Sriperumbudur without incident — a testament to NTC’s core philosophy of Safety First and its unwavering commitment to the “3Ms” — Men, Machine, and Material.
“Every ODC movement is a test of endurance, planning, and skill,” said an NTC spokesperson. “But safety is always our top priority. Our teams carry not just the cargo, but the responsibility of ensuring operational excellence at every step.”
From torrential rain to engineering obstacles, this movement stands as another landmark achievement for NTC Logistics in its mission to navigate the impossible.
