Recent weather anomalies in the Persian Gulf have raised concerns among stakeholders in ocean and air freight sectors, further complicating supply chains amid escalating geopolitical tensions post the Iran-Israel confrontation. Cargo delays and backlogs, potentially lasting a week until resolution, have been reported by industry sources in Dubai.

Additionally, extreme weather conditions have led to berthing delays at several ports, including Jebel Ali. Freight forwarders indicate ongoing disruptions in over-the-road freight movements, with efforts underway to restore affected road networks.

Despite these challenges, container line executives report that port operations are gradually returning to normal, though flooding continues to cause delays. The air freight sector, significantly impacted by the UAE’s worst storms in 75 years, saw Dubai Airport, a major global hub, experience extensive flight cancellations and diversions due to runway flooding. Emirates and Air India have initiated steps towards resuming operations, though cargo handling remains limited, potentially elevating freight rates. Container lines have announced rate increases on India-Middle East routes, reflecting a rise in demand.
